i wouldnt say that chantry, ive always seen it as two very seperated groups. theres kids in basments going nuts every weekend and having a blast, and then theres this mall pop commercialized junk, but at this point theyre SO seperated they barely seem to have any effect on each other (from my youthful perspective anyways). the latter is just a parody of the former and thats about it. those mall kids arent going to real underground punk shows, and real punk rock kids arent going to the big gillette-razor-sponsored concerts. we barely run into each other anymore.
noisey thrash bands with hand printed 7"s funded from gas station jobs are still playing my living room to 15 kids who are having a blast dancing like maniacs. then theyll sleep on my floor and eaten ramen they brought with them. sometimes theyll do their dishes.
these girls will never come into THIS side of "punk rock" so i would never "give up the name", if you will. if they wanna call it that, fine, but im not going to stop calling this punk rock too.
