I agree it's confusing (a little), but re-writing the info at the bottom is a lazy solution to a self-imposed problem. What really should have happened is the main image should have been executed in a clearer, more understandable way so the footnote wouldn't have been necessary.
If you're going to do a fake magazine cover, I think you really need to commit to it more. This is sort of half-assed - the layout, type, and the address label barely qualify as "magazine-y". And as for the "wrinkled and stained" thing, it either IS (the background), or it ISN'T (the main image). When you mix the two on top of each other, it looks sorta crappy.
