From doing this Fistful book and having to look at EVERY single poster on this site, 4 times in 2 years, I can see how much some people are really growing in leaps and bounds, once they actually have a style of their own, like Mazza for example; and other people losing their style and getting lost cause they are distraced by what other people are doing. I have seen deterioration in some people's stuff, sadly.
Looking at all the posters here so many times you do see a load of crap, copy cat crap or really lazy crap, but every 100th poster, BAMM< it looks amazing. And its always when someone finds their style.
I've looked at every poster in the database 4 times a year for the past 3-4 years.
You can see people progressively grow or deterirate when you do that.
of course, for sure, cliche rock posters suck too, they are really boring, just like all the generic rock bands that don't rock suck.
I understand, duh.
Sometimes something is not boring, not because of the subject matter, but the skill with which it was made, you can be equally impressed with art that has incredible detail and handywork
as you can be for art that has aestethics that are more abstract, but equally interesting and appealing.
No one is saying anything about there being ONE style for all posters, far from it. I didn't see anyone say that, even Richie.
What people are talking about is the thought process behind making a poster, regardless of the style of the poster. (which is different than an artist haveing 'style').
The difference between being truly creative and being lazy and doing something that is just nice.
