gene> as long as your not a tortured soul seeking help, its ok by me. i think its funny how you know you'll be painted as the bad guy, and yet you continue. it seems like its between you two and falls under the 'none-of-my-business' category.
if you explained this how jason "went out of his way to do something that cost me and my associates a substantial amount of money" -- and it was something valid, like cutting off your fingers and you taught sign language to deaf people for a living, maybe i could empathise. as it is, you seem like a psycho, and this poster will consistently out-rock your sad, feeble comments. you claim they are valid, yet give no reason why he is a "hack." i've never seen this image before, and its a very good poster. i would like to own it. whereas i have yet to see work you and your "associates" have produced. vengeance can be sweet, but not when its childish. but continue with your mission if it makes you feel better. it makes me sad for you.
chachichi- i've checked out your site, i know you've got a great rep. hell, i love your posters. maybe you do posters for a living, maybe its a higher calling. i do em for fun, if i didn't do them, they wouldn't get done. its advertising (ouch). i wish it were more, but i get about $15 per poster. can i spend a lot of time on a poster? no. do i wish i was smarter? yes. do i wish i knew more about music? i dunno. i think (from your comment) that you want poster designers to take it to the next level, really do the best work they can. i hope you're not just saying you're better at poster making than me. which you are, i totally agree. Ames bros are like gods to me, and i don't see a ton of concept in their work. if i could do it all over again, i'd be a doctor.
and the terrible thing is, there is absolutely no connection with this image and the band. the music venue (graceland) needed four 11x17 bw posters in two days, and i just used something to do with monkeys on each one. and this one got mikey. which makes me a terrible person. yet i don't feel bad. strange. ps. as an added bonus, i've never actually heard of the starlight mints, let alone listened to them. i just do whatever i feel like.
i don't understand the critical feedback. i wish i could make something this gorgeous. i guess its cool to 'go against the flow' and say something is good, but has these problems. 'I like it, but..' if it was helpful criticism, ok, but this poster is perfect, so what's the problem. sit back and enjoy it. but that's just my opinion.
