poor richie wrong again. hand lettering is worlds apart from stretching a typeface.

Why are you illustrator types so lazy that you can't hand letter the type you need? You always have to stretch and tweak it to cram it in the composition?

The Fillmore and Armadillo guys did it. Your generation sucks.

dutchie if I had to explain you wouldn't understand. You've gone on this rant a million times. You like what you like. You never studied design so explaining why rules have a place in that world will never make sense to you.

Just claim down go with the flow mazn...

"What if something goes against 'the rules' yet is still a kickass poster because it just looks and feels good? "

Then that's awesome. You asked a question and I answered it. Take any design 101 class and you will be told not to stretch type. Based on that criteria this poster fails. We all know that it is a success for a number of other reasons.

Too many variables to pigeonhole any one style on here and say it fails as a poster.

Richie started this shit by saying AA's hold steady poster failed as a ROCK poster. I'm just stating another viewpoint on why his work fails as a design.

"peverto... this is what I don't get about you lot:

You say that the type is crap according to 'design or typesetting rules' except not for this poster style...

in other words the typesetting rules are a bunch of fucking bullshit akin to a matsers degree in wankery

something works or it doesnt... there are no rules and your comment about 'it doesnt follow the rules but it works for this style' is just stupid

typesetting rules?

Next thing and you are going to be like Dusty and tell me that Modern Dog makes excellent posters that deserve to be in wankery magazines and win lots of wanking prices"

You said it. you "don't get it" I'm not saying richie fucking off all type rules is a good thing. I personally think it sucks but a precedent has been set that for this type of poster it's acceptable. So I'll cut him some slack on a certain level. the type still blows and doesn't fit design standards. David Carson made the most unreadable magazine ever and people called him a typography genius.

You hate design mags so I won't take up that conversation with you dutchie
