Cake fans would not like Spoon. Spoon will kick your ass though. started out with a Pixies sound and evolved. Prolly the best band in Austin. Jim Eno is a awesome drummer and the song "fitted shirt" that this is about has a huge Zeppelin-esque drum sound. My fav. on the album. I thought this was genius when i first saw it. Still do. There's nothin' stiff about spoon...
Frank do you know the guys in Woodpussy? I'm friends with Gordy. They are fucked up. Got voted one of the worst bands in america in Spin a while back. Displaced Okies out in Silverlake now. Check 'em out:
The Photo Galleries are nice. Mmmm Donuts.
I'd like to get one of these to send to Gordo If ya have any.
This is great advice. One of my partners, Jason, just moved to Houston because he'd been in Austin his whole life. Everything he loved has gone by the wayside and he wanted a change. I've been here about 7 years and have a entirely different perspective on the town. He has always said he appreciates how Paul and I are enthusiastic about things happening here like they did when Frank was still here.
There are a lot of talented "art types" here in Austin and hooking up with them has been very cool. There is still an underground bubbling here. Lots of great bands and all that revolves around music and art. You just can't sit on yr ass and expect a scene to fall in your lap.
I still kick myself for not packing up my shit as soon as I heard boiled beef and rotting teeth right outta high school. Not like Seattle needed any more pilgrims.
I always loved what was going on there. The fact I got the trickle down in Oklahoma is still amazing. I had to go to great lenths to get the music and even greater to see it. Who knows what would have hapened if I had moved. The ammount of drugs that were in OK would have prolly been amplified and at the rate I took them I may not have ever made it had I moved up there.
