Art is a huge influence on me you can see it in our Willie Nelson poster and here. I dig the challenge of taking influence and making it new. I also continuously look for new stuff to print on other than paper. Printing on vinyl was Paul's idea and he'd never seen the Mono Men piece. I had and said if we are going to do it it has to be for the right band or we are not adding anything to the original. DJ Spooky came along and was perfect. I'm glad you all caught that. And thanks again for the kind words.
we got lucky. The pins we use to register fit perfectly in the vinyl hole. Should be cool. With Should being the key word. BLT printed a Mono Men poster for Art Chantry on records so I hope to pick his brain for guidance.
must a been some colour fairy floatin around saying "use pantone 612 cvc"
Who's the Baltimore band Nolen? I did this for Lifter Puller and they are Minneapolis via Boston back to NYC. The sign type is all from the original image. It was a marquee for some other theatre and was advertising "the greatest picture ever made birth of a nation" Oddly enough from all the existing info I had every letter I needed except the Y on the marquee and the N on the Nice Nice. I had to build the N outta the I. Photoshop rules.
this is a "high" concept piece. Don't know what you guys know about Lifter Puller but they are one of my favourite bands. Sad thing is they broke up right when I found out about them. They are
getting back together to play a final show at Brownie's in NYC which is also closing. So it's based on their music. If you check www.lifterpuller.com you can see lyrics. They're genius. All about people I (we) knew in high school or college. Smart stuff. Anyway their CD's all tell a story about this group of people getting fucked up and trying to score rock, etc. Each CD just continues it. The characters are from Jersey/NYC and they hang out at a club called the Nice Nice and there's this dealer named Night Club Dwight. The last line of Lifter Puller's last song on their last CD says "I want Night Club Dwight dead in his grave I want the Nice Nice up in blazes"
That's what this burned up building is supposed to represent.
Thanks guys. This was supposed to be printed with silver ink poppin off the white but screen broke down and I hit a deadline for dave. Prolly shouldn't say this but it took me 15 minutes to knock this out. Rare occasion but it happens now and again. That is the Juliana Theory guitarist. Wonder if he'll know it. Fill me in dave if you find out
This is my all time favorite poster. Lemme see if I can get the story straight especially since Jeff should be too busy to come on here and correct me.
We were talking about hitting a wall for ideas one day. I was relaying how Paul and I could not make this one image work for a Breeders poster. I'm sure all of you know how frustrating that is. So about this time of night a few days before it was due I looked down at my Chuck Taylors and bam. Placed one on the scanner and had the poster. Thought I was pretty smart till Jeff said he couldn't come up with shit for this poster. Screwed around and cut his finger on some paper and after putting the bandaid on... well there you have it. Lousy genius.
Seriously my all time favorite I look for a copy almost everyday.
