this is another great example of over-use exhaustion. i think the first time i did a fake lobby card was in about '82. done it a hundred times since. doomed to repeat it, i guess...

sorry charlie (i've dying to use that!), so far as i know, benny-boy was kicking around a hell of a long time before ol'nast-y. and this IS the first editorial cartoon, but then here in amerika, we think we invented everything. maybe in england they think nast invented it. but then in russia...

one thing i learned is that history is only as good as those who write it. and the victors get to write the history. hell, the american indians probably invented editorial cartoons.

credit the illustrator on this!!!!! it was done by a fella name of ben franklin. it's the very first editorial cartoon EVER. on top of everything else, that crazy fucker invented editorial cartoons!! he was a pot smoker, too! him and george washington (who grew it commercially on his farm in virginia). and it's well documented that ol' honest abe liked nothing better than to 'relax in the evening with a fine bowl of hemp."

there is hope...

no surprise. banks understand the money value of what we do. when they rip us off, they know they're getting something. indie labels that rip you off are just swine. they'll rip off anything.

that being said, i still prefer small businesses to corporations. in a small business (and ESPECIALLY indie labels) they only real credit history they have is their personal integrity. if they rip folks off, people (hopefully) will stop working with them - and they go out of business. corporations on the other hand, are a beuacracy that empowers no-one. every promise made is a lie because the person who makes the promise has no power to uphold that promise. major labels have front people who will promise you ANYTHING, but fall down flat when it comes to delivering their promise (higherup sez our policy is...) so, i prefer to know exactly who it is that's jerking me around. often i can do something about it. that's why i still prefer small folks.

as far as starbucks goes, maybe some other time. they're long stories with many characters.
