actually my worst cop stories are from growing up in tacoma. man, it's really the bottom of the barrel there. there's a hierarchy in cops in washington state, and when you can't get on with the state patrol, or the seattle police, you start working your way down the list, king county police, fire dept. etc. etc. when you get down real low toward the bottom there's the pierce county police, security cops and the military. when they won't have you, you can be assured of getting a job with the tacoma police department.
i got some GREAT horro stories from growing up in tacoma, by gawd!
everybody in seattle thinks they have the best cops in the u.s. but they're always shooting handcuffed prisoners in the back, and shaking down black people in white neighborhoods (i've seen it), and taking people out while they're off duty. all those riots in seattle were later determined to be the police getting out of control, but even with that, the media won't pick up on it and prefer to blame 'anarchists from oregon' or 'cops from surrounding cities.' the truth is that seattle cops are a nasty lot and it's best to stay as far away from them as you can. i think that goes for all cops.
oh, and the 'reason' they broke into my house was because my phone was off the hook. i kid you not. that was why they broke in and searched my house from top to bottom looking for contraband (found nothing, thank god). then they refused to pay any of the $5000 in damages they did. they said they were acting imn my own best interest - i could have been in the middle of a murder/kidnapping.
