yup, guns and roses actually OPENED for the fastbacks. duff was an old fastbacks drummer (one of the legendary many) and the newly formed band drove up in a station wagon (as i heard it) that broke down and left them stranded for awhile. two words: puh thetic!
now that everybody's had their fun, i just want to add that nobody 'ripped off' anybody. if you read my longwinded comment, i wasn't even talking about ripoff, i was talking about language. when you do this stuff well, it becomes part of our shared language of pop culture. the fact the he made something look like mine (it wasn't EXACTLY the same idea) was because i managed to connect out there on this level that fit right in. THAT'S when i know i'm doing my job well.
and to add to fuss, i want to point out that visualante makes some mighty fine images - he's got a rather nice illustration style that i think will do him nicely - especially as he gets more comfortable with it. to be honest, i really do think he could do more with his typography. perhaps do a little research on some famous old guys like herb lubalin or lou dorfsman. or, better yet, look long and hard at those old seattle punk posters i've been slapping up. the one thing that differentiated seattle posters from the stuff created elsewhere (now this is an observation open to lotsa debate) is some lip-smackin clever, even downright good type ideas and usage.
