this was all done around the time that the presidents were the hottest act in seattle. at this show the drummer couldn't make it, so they had a substitute and decided to bill themselves as "the Vice-presidents of the United states of America" instead.
another interesting thing about dale is that he designed 'sub pop 100'- the first official sub pop lp. the cover illustration was done by carl smool.
during the course of the design (which he did at the rocket), he couldn't figure out what to do for the logo - the one i designed for use in the rocket on bruce pavitt's record review column was designed to run across two coulmns and was too long and skinny to use as is. we talked it over and dale decided to stack it (sub on top of pop). that's where the logo that we all know came into existance.
