thanks! except it's NOT boy george. it's wilum pugmire, esq. - a horror fiction author (classic lovecraftian mode, his 'sesqua valley' stories are choice). he's also a full time horror drag queen (24-7 since the '60's. boy, has HE had a life!). he also used to put out a zine called 'punk lust'. in fact, in a letter to his zine, a young mark maclaughlin (nee "mark arm") wrote a letter wanking on about this "GRUNGE" music, thus coining the term.
anyway, he's also a big boy george "fan". the best part is that in every city, there is a small cult of boy george wannabe lookalikes. in seattle, the bull goose boy george drag queen was a fella name of "boy mike". now, boy mike always hated wilum because wilum made fun of him and was frankly a better boy george in appearance. so, when i was offerd this project i immediately thought it would be funny to put wilum on the poster. he dug out this foto and he loved the idea because it would REALLY piss off boy mike. it worked wonders. wilum even stategically mass-postered just so boy mike would be bombarded with them. boy mike went nova. he ended up working overtime stalking boy george just so he could get his picture with the guy. we all giggled a lot. i won't talk about the death threats wilum got. end of story.
all i can really tell you about the lp underneath is that it appears to on epic. it came from my old lp collection when i piled up so much, i had to thin it out. some of these lp's were junk, others were extremely rare and valuable records. i remember i even tossed in an original copy of The Sonics "here are.."
it's glow-in-the-dark ink, by the way. that's why it's so transparent.
i've always wanted to use this image, so i finally did. i always thought that disaster was kinda stupid (i mean, they were SPACEMEN. death comes with territory). but for an entire generation this was their vietnam. so, i wanted to laugh at that generation and stuff. yes, i'm mean.
david carson? you mean HE was the guy who invented crummy xeroxed typography? i guess i owe him a deep sincere apology, then.
at one point ashleigh gave me all of her old worn-out clip art books for my colection. there were all of these pictures of faces with chunks that had been cut out for her work. they were really intriguing. i felt compelled to fix them...
i thought tim was a great illustrator. like i said, he went into motorcycle customizing. he's does absolutley awesome work in that field as well. he's a total gearhead who loves things that go fast. so, you know his bikes are not just for show. some them are so damn fast that even HE's afraid to open them up all the way!
