brendan - well, my general (note the word 'general') experience with people from nyc is that they have this incredible provincialism that creates this blinding myopia when it comes to the rest of the country. basically, if it doesn't happen in nyc, then it really didn't happen at all. (they do make exeptions for sf - which they view as a sorta 'mini nyc' - and then la - cuz of them movie things). i swear i've been treated like a backwoods primitive by new yorkers all my life. when they notice me or my work, they sorta hold it up and say "why look at this! genuine vernacular imagery produced by a country bumpkin", or something to that effect. i then get 'discovered' and then it fades away and no more attention is paid to me until some twit suddenly discovers work of primitive impact and then i get heralded as a primitive genius all over again. i've gone through the same stupid cycle about five times since the aerly 80's.
it's all pretty silly.
i see the same phenomenon in regards to music, art, fashion, in fact all popular culture generally.
so, i get a little snitty about nyc. can you blame us bumpkins out here?
but seriously, did you know that reg (the lead singer and top dog cheezeball in the troggs) is now one of the world authorities on crop circles? he's one of the bull goose cereologists. sometimes you see him interviewed on those ufo shows on "the learning channel".
i know your word is gospel and all, but how about posting the flyers and then proving to me that these were anything more than punk bands or retro-60's bands. ya know, just because the beach boys play every year at the state fair doesn't mean there is a surf revival going on...
