i met helms' grandkid. he was amazing, totally smart and cool. he's a graphic designer and he just moved to austin (his dreamtown). he's probably banging on your door right now looking for work. i sent him to f27, but they seemed to think i was setting them up or something. hell, you guys should hire him - he's brilliant!
this was remarkably difficult to do. the sheer force and power of all of your posters took a great deal of effort to subdue. we finally wrestled those posters to the ground and stabbed them with a fork.
to begin with, all the posters were different sizes and materials. we had only one image for all of them. so, on some the image would be smaller and others, the image would be bigger. no way around it. then, all the colors were different - the inks would not obliterate the image below. we went through several remarkably different designs and color combinations. we finally fell back onto black. then, the problem arose of the "old" information confusing the viewer and running the risk of they viewer not seeing that it was a bts show and not, sat, a dead moon show. we finally decided to print on the posters unpsidedown.
jermaine's printer is a god.
so, in the long run, you guys were remarkable difficult to cancel out. but we did it, by golly!
well, that's a toughie. the only video of her that i know about is available through "target video". but the problem is that the guy who was target video sort became a bitter old fuck who has a shit job and no clue as how to get his amazing footage out there and available. he's got footage of the screamers and of the cramps (waaaay early) and the germs. virtually anybody of note from the california scene pre-1980. i've tried to buy tapes from him, but he demands a lot of money up front and never sends the tapes. crazy, i guess.
anyway, if you can track him down and actually get him to send you stuff, i'd love to give it another try. but i've lost too much money on him already to give it another shot.
johanna went was a performance artist/rock musician from la during the late 70's. i saw her play once in the basement of graven image (a dirt cellar) and it was the most horrifying thing i've ever seen, before or since. g.g. allen and the dwarves and gwar didn't even begin to touch gross-out gore compared to her.
she could eat modern "punk rock dudes" for breakfast and still have room for lunch.
