sf, on the other sorta loves their own. they still talk about every famous guy who ever came from there like they were genius sons. they still give them work, even. sf is a clique and they enforce that. the result is they love their members.
all i know is that we had to yell at the owner of the rocket, threaten him even, for months, YEARS even, just to let us put nirvana or soudgarden on the cover. all he ever wanted to do was put tom petty or bruce springsteen on the cover. here was all this amazing stuff POURING out of local bars and he said, "it'll never amount to anything. locals bands all suck." we just bypassed him and we did it anyway. he was furious, but we sorta fired him at that point and ignored him and did what we wanted after that. thank god we did that.
by the way, that owner guy was charles r. cross, who later made a fortune with that book about cobain and nirvana. it was on the nyt bestseller chart for months. ironic. curt ended up making him rich.
he's a good example of what i'm talking about. seattle treated Heart like crap, too, until thaey became too big to ignore. it's sorta true for all the local talent up here. everybody had to leave the city to get a career at all.
wow. if it's true, then the ONLY reason i've heard good things about the offs is that they were a san francisco band. the sf crowd tends to love their own. i've noticed over the years that the loyalty factor is big there.
it's not like seattle, which HATES it's own until somebody in new york city sez they're good, then they all claim they discovered them first - but, they still remember when they sucked.
seattle's is a very different attitude toward bands than sf's.
what? there's type on this thing? i hardly noticed.
yes, the type sucks beyond belief. but, it's the overall stupid magic of this crappy thing that works for me. good lord, how can you crit the type after seeing that ripped image? i must be from a foreign made barbarella poster or something. i love it.
if this is an "original" drawing (maybe a copy of a barbarella poster?), then the type is even worse because of it's incompetence. that would make the whole thing perfecto. so bad it's good, ya know?
