Some questions regarding the collection part

    1. It will need to have an option for a 'private' setting... in other words not open to the public. Nothing worse thatn having to deal with 500 obsessive freaks who want a rare poster like Jay Ryan's Fugazi poster. I promise you this will be needed if you want to make this a success

    2. Will you add ISO and Trade sleeves (like eb.com)?

    3. Searching for posters is becoming a royal pain in the ass on gigposters.com due to the limited search capabilities. Looking for a Kozik for the Melvins from 1994 takes too long. You need to sift through page upon page of bull to finally find it. A victim of your own success I guess but there is so many posters now on this site that the search function needs to be improved to make it practical to add a large collection on gigposters.com . So far EB is far superior when it comes to this and you will need to improve not only the search function, but also all the meta data bullshit to allow you for different searches (dimensions, edition, year, medium, etc.) AND you need some volunteers to have access to the database to clean up some of the bullshit. There is too much 'wrong' info and while I know you dont have time to sift through it, it just keeps getting worse. Get volunteers who can modify the data on posters, add meta data as they see fit and all that.

    4. The way I could use a 'collection' feature is to catalog my shit and also add detailed info regarding the print. Not only is gigposters missing the important stuff (for me) like edition size, medium, size, dollar-data l like how much it was bought for, where it was bought from, and on and on.... but it also misses the functionality in the comments section of the collection... just adding a text blob is not helpful... I need something that I can query, sort and filter on... databases dude, not some text file

Sorry Rene .. but this site was never intended to be focused on collecting, or art specific details. Thats what expresso beans is for, and it does a great job for the few people out there who collect posters and want all those details.

This site was always intended to be for the general public, to see posters for their favorite bands, to see where they have played etc. It was made as a focus on community, and an archive of gig posters from around the world in a visual manner (not detailed specific data).

    To answer your questions:

    1. I will consider adding a private option, but that is not the intent here. In my mind, its intended for sharing favorites and collection info with everyone else on the site as a way of helping people discover cool posters. Would you really want to track your collection privately on 2 different websites?

    2. No. There is a trading section in the classified ads for this.

    3. Nope. This site has always been designed as 'simple' and 'user friendly'. I get complements all the time on how easy it is to use, and I'm proud of that.

    4. Nope again. You are one of VERY few people who would want to track that stuff, and that is what expresso beans is for. Most people who come here are not interested in that stuff.

Sorry Rene, I understand fully what you would like, but thats just not what this site is all about. These 2 new features are more about fun, and sharing than data analysis and tracking.

    fair enuff

    but...

    1. seriously consider a private function... anyone adding that fugazi-dogs poster by jay ruan is going to be bombarded by a bunch of retards

    3. huh? ever tried to find a particular poster by kozik? its impossible without having to sift through a shitload of pages... if you define user-friendly as severly limited then perhaps the search function falls in that category bit for me searching is a pain in the ass. You can actually notice already that many more people are using eb as their poster link than a gigposter link... your site is so successful and full of thousands and thousands of posters that you need to reconsider the search capabilities... I understand that your database is not set up right now for this and I know its impossible to do on your own but I cant deal with the frustration trying to find a particular poster from a high-colume artist for a high-volume band.

Not at all. WTF do you know about how my database is set up? I could program anything I want in there in an instant .. THAT is what I do for a living. Perhaps you should leave your comments to things that you actually know about.

I've already got an advanced search suggested and its on my list of things to do. Its definitely not a high priority though, as I can find any poster relatively quick if I know either a designer name or a band name. There are very few bands or designers with more than 10 pages.
