OK. I want everyone's opinion on this. (even you.. Retard Riot).

I have the ability to LOCK TOPICS. What this means is, i can click a button, and from that point on, no one else can reply to that topic.

I have never used this before.. but I am suddenly feeling the need to.

    Why?

    1. I don't like to censor. Freedom of speech.. yadda yadda yadda...

    2. Spammers must die. There is no reason to have the same things posted in multiple places, or duplicated at all.

    3. As I have said before, I am trying to keep useless topics off the front page. New visitors to the site see this, and assume the site is crap.

Why am I considering this? At the moment, a user named Retard Riot, has spammed multiple times the same information. It IS valid info. There is nothing wrong with what was posted, except that it was posted MULTIPLE times.

This has lead to a massive uproar.. resulting in many "useless" topics.

Should I lock these topics out? or not?

YES. I also think you should delete all

'bullshit' threads after a couple of weeks.

leave the 'real ones' up in an archive area.

Don't lock em unless they're fucking up your bandwith. Censorship is for fags.
That guy's getting on my nerves but hey, more power to him. That's really difficult to do.

    agreed.
    with kozik that is.
bs threads should die after awhile. threads where people are being self obsessed dicks should be locked.

If you leave one open it's not censorship, just organization. It's a drag looking at the main page filled with nothing but threads that are basically the same "I'm great"/"fuck you" argument.

i agree with frank.......that would also take care of the stupid/pointless shit we say popping up on the search engines problem, wouldn't it?

i think one useful aspect of locking topics is to keep dips like myself who don't pay attention to posting dates from adding his own witty comments to a thread that died out in ...oh, mid 2001.

the beauty of most threads is that they really DO die out on their own mostly, so i would say locking is only a good idea after..i dunno two weeks? a month? if it's a decent topic, it'll get started again anyway.

but no, i wouldn't delete or lock stuff that's just plain annoying or unsightly or bad for business. besides, it would be an incredible pain in your ass if you had to spend a chunk of your day playing forum police.

But I was hoping to leave a legacy of stupid pointless shit I said popping up on search engines to my children...
