I've been going back and forth between a tablet and my desktop, so I may have missed the change. It looks good on the tablet, but I've got 200px of white space on either side in the browser window on the desktop.

Yes - it sure is. I have a few major changes to the site coming soon, and this is part of the master plan.
It will still resize for all browser resolutions under 1200 as normal, but stop at 1200 for widescreen resolutions above that.

Cool. One suggestion though, the font size on the discussion and comment links is too small when using a tablet. I find I have to zoom in to click on anything.
Everything looks cool otherwise.
I always get an odd feeling when there's white-strips on each side of the webpage... kinda like it wasn't meant to be... Maybe hit them with a color?
Looking forward to the see the whole master-plan. Does it involve a cheese-scented options?
Yeah, I can't get used to it yet. It's always like this when something is changed however... familiarity is hard to get past I guess.

I've found sizing for the web to be even more confusing now as to what the best practice is. I have 2 24 inch screens here at home, a 27 inch at work, then my wife has a brand new 13 inch laptop, and we both have ipads. So now when I design for the average user on my work screen it feels like I'm designing for an iphone - the scales are so different.
i think it's a good move. i never liked the fact that the width was set to 100%, it made the top nav on my wide screen look not well thought out and too spread out.
it will also allow for the skinning of the site. (Ad Revenue)
I just noticed I have no banner ads showing.
Is there going to be a hardcopy of the site available?
