    Default FS/economy

Posted first at API forums, but nobody goes there...

I hadn't seen much discussion of this yet, but it's fairly evident that FS and SXSW in general might be a little weird because of the economy. Does anyone have any different plans or ideas for handling their booths, sales and such in light of this? There are some obvious absences from different folks, are they due to this, or the extra day, or other reasons? Discuss.

we'd love to go, but can't justify it as easily as in past years.

we just don't sell enough to cover the expense, unfortunately.

You only think the economy is bad because the newsman is telling you that. I'm sure it will be a huge success as always.

looks like less vendors than last year, which is good. I counted 63.

One of my plans is to drink more free beer.

...again a 50/50 chance I'll make it to Chicago. SXSW is never going to be an option for me. Too expensive all around. I'm sure you all sit around crying in your beers every year that I'm not there.

Maybe everybody in a band will be sporting the same new $150 irony mullet, instead of the same new $250 irony mullet.

"Every single Crosshair poster I've ever seen is almost exactly the same. Do these guys even have a bit of creativity in them? I mean, come one - shitty old building pics photoshopped with text over them. Pretty pathetic to say the least."

"it just seems like so little effort is put into creating this? am i missing something?"

naw, the economy is exactly as bad as they are saying on the news.

but luckily most people at an FS are there on vacation or to buy something.

the only reason i did so fucking well at Seattle FS was because almost all my prices were 1/2 of what they usually are.

Its a vicious circle. If they didn't tell you there was a 'bad economy' on the news .. people wouldn't be spending less and wouldn't be worried about it.

I can figure it out when a gallon of milk cost as much as it does. I don't need the news to tell me that.
