Default talk to me about funk & soul

    please.

yes, i know that they are not always the same.

because i am recently moving from "that shit's awesome" to kind of obsessed. you know, that period where you love something and don't have nearly enough of it and got no clue about where to head next.

suggestions from goofy pop stuff from the 70's, more rare stuff (the Quantic World's Rarest Funk is killing me right now), to whatever's tickled yinz fancies.

    help a sister out.

There's a double CD out called NIGERIAN FUNK. I think from the 70's, not sure.

    It is obscure and excellent!

    Soul and R&B

    You must own/steal:

Any Stax or Volt box set you can get your hands on.

Atlantic Rhythm & Blues: 1947-1974 box set. Best chronology of early Soul and R&B on the planet.

i'm sort of over-represented on the james brown tip, if that's possible. which, really it isn't, and i have some can't-live-without-it parliment & funkadelic, i just need to fill in gaps. thanks so far, good good!

also, not quite funk or soul, but you guys should check out the Ethiopiques compilations of Ethiopian soul-funk-jazz stuff. it's amazing. it sounds like summer air on the best day ever.

geez luna, be prepared to spend a lot of time and money on this obsession

    Anything Quantic related is amazing.
Not all "old school funk/soul compilations" are good
Old instrumental James Brown records are great
    Budos band rules

And anything on the below labels are good:

    Tru Thoughts
    http://www.truthandsoulrecords.com/
    Daptone Records is Soul Excitement!
    Soul Jazz Records
    Numero Group

If yer nice, Ill bring you a ton of funk/soul in seattle...

google Northern Soul (if you like to dance) and then buy some comps like here:
    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...n+soul&x=0&y=0

thats an easy way to get started
