    Default Cleaning frames for Restretching?

We just picked up about 10 36x42 frames from an old UV printer that just LOVED to leave his ink all over the aluminum along with about 2 to 3 layers of gorrilla tape.

I'm not talking about the mesh here, just the aluminum frames. The ink is about 1/4" to 3/8" thick in some places, and won't come off.

I've tried a paint scraper, Side grinder, wire brush and grinding bits, a wire brush on a drill, everything. I thought the side grinder would be my best bet, but it just turns the ink into this spiderwebby mist and doesn't do much.

Any incredibly toxic stuff I can soak these puppies in before I send them to victory to get restretched? Kerosene and then light them on fire?

I'm calling a sand blaster tomorrow, see if they think they can get it off.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I'd soak them in CPS screen wash type A, which has two key ingredients of benzene and lye. Then powerwash them and resoak. The lye will turn the ink into jelly. Maybe you could try some liquid draino which is heavy in lye. Wear google when you was them down. Getting draino in your eye sucks.

right on, i'll go and grab some now. Maybe get a trough of some kind to soak each side at a time.

Maybe I could get some pure lye and just fill the washout sink with it, that sink needs to get clean anyways!

Do a test. A heat gun will also help, but don't do them together (lye and heat).

Yes, that's the right spirit. Throw in some chlorine as well just to make sure you're doing it right.

Another possibility might be to dissolve some stryrofoam in benzene, put that on the frame and burn that.

and maybe when the frames are all clean, i can siphon off the excess and use it as dehazer! recycle reduce reuse! I guess i could make some napalm with stryofoam and gasoline... that'd be pretty thick.

Seems the drano is a little too thin to just sit on this stuff. I'm off to bomb depot to buy pure lye and build a trough.

Found this stuff called aircraft paint stripper. Sort of made for aluminum. Going to try that as well.

Anyone know if victory will clean all this stuff for me for a fee? I don't want to send it to them and them say "um, no way jose" and then have to ship it back...
