Default Scratch Process Poorman's Exposure Unit

I've been tooling around the GP site for a couple of months now researching past posts and feel sufficiently brain-dead enough to try setting up a silk screen shop under my house. My hope is that this thread will assist those in a similar boat and allow anybody, who wishes, to point out good or bad points in my process to help us all improve. I'll upload photos as I go. Thanks - Robert

I'm starting out with the "supercheap" overhead halogen option. The idea of a fluorescent tube light box appealed to me, but possibility of light bounce behind the positive resulting in loss detail put me off.
So far I've collected these parts:

Piece of 1/4" glass 19" X 32". Not UV treated as far as I can tell(apparent test is to hold a lit lighter or match on one side of the glass and look through from the other side - if the flame appears more than once it may be uv coated-this info from a glass guy here in Brisbane Australia where quite a bit of glass is uv coated).
Paid $10.00 at a tip shop.(A "tip" is a dump and a "tip shop" is where they put stuff that they have pulled out of the tip/dump that they think people will buy-love these shops-never know what they'll have and always amazed at what people throw away)

$23.00 at Bunnings (Australia's version of Home Depot)

Piece of foam I found on the highway.
    FREE

    More to come.

Bum ass stank makes the foam more dense.

Is the foam really needed? I only use a 250w lamp, but find laying a piece of black cloth under my screen works fine.

I've read that the foam can help if you don't have a vacum frame. I don't know yet, I'll let you know how it goes once I get to the stage of exposure tests. Besides, that shiz was free on the side of the road and I haven't smelt any bum ass stank comin' off of it.

    i'm in a similar boat.
i've read over Bill's post about the use of growlight
    roughly $400(basic)-$500(blue bulb)
i've check the unit exposure process thread for a homemade UV table unit
    silkscreensupplies[dot]com has a 25x36 for $450
since halogen give off light in the 600nm+ range (incandescent/ HPS etc)
actinic UV in the right range (330-440mn) is what makes the emulsion work- andymac
how long are exposure times (10-15 minutes?) ?

i guess it boils down to what you have more of, time or money.

edit: .. yea i chimed in with a fairly uselsss post

Your right about the exposure times, I see it like this - at this point I'm interested in silk screening some posters(I'm not planning on sending the boy to college from poster money). I've never done it before so I may like it - I may not - I want to invest as little as possible to find out - if I do like it I can always buy "up".
