so. i needed to order packing tape and some boxes for new screens that i bought locally and that came without a box. i figured that i would kill two birds with one stone and get boxes that i can also use in the future for shipping to and from Flatstocks.
i usually look at packaging price first, because many times they are cheaper than uline for things like stay flats and kraft paper. especially on shipping.
not this time soldier. here is a screen cap of the final order screen:
yes, i called them and yes, that is the correct shipping for the boxes. cause...ten flat boxes "are shipped on an 18 wheeler, and you have to pay a palate charge, freight. so it's expensive."
uline, however, made a deal with a devilsh company called UPS.
this is exactly why I instituted "Keep It Local in '08" for most of my supplies. I found a place that is doing custom size tubes for one cent less than uline per tube and NO SHIPPING cuz they local and I pick up. same with boxes.
so far i haven't found a box maker here that has good sizes for my screens (23x31) and shipping flatstock crap.
it's nuts. i can ship 106 pounds of my own stupid shite across the country for $85, but ten empty, flat, boxes are going to cost $177? i just started laughing and hung up. sorry lady, that was too much.
