    Default halide safety?

So i just bought a 1000 watt halide rig from a rather sketchy guy.

Included was a ballast in a home made enclosure and two of these bulbs

1000 watt Sunmaster Warm Deluxe MH Bulb - Metal Halide Bulbs

Plugged it in last night and it seemed to work great.

Though I had the thought, with the unenclosed bulb dangling just a few feet from my headóDo these things ever just blow up without reason?

Not wanting a face full of vapor and hot glass. it would ruin my day.

    Nevermind.

Talked to a guy at an indoor garden place and got the safety rundown.

    I feel reassured.

Did a step exposure test and got some awesome results. MH is awesome.

MH the only way to fly. Do not put your greasy fingers on the glass of the bulb, that causes them to explode

    that too.

what else.... they have a heat reset, they won't relight for 15-30 min after shut down if they were hot

they take up to 5 minutes to reach full on - if you time the exposure from the start, your 2nd one will be way faster

I would avoid looking at a full on bulb

You should not stand close to it for hours unless you want that scorched skin look so popular in New Jersey

I read somewhere they go 10,000 hours. Way longer than a commercial bulb like Olec uses. We used to get 400 hours out of our 10,000 w unit. expensive to replace too.

I think these grow show bulbs are a great cheap way for exposures.
