    Default Network Printing XP/OS X

Ok. My wife has a pc running Windows XP.

    I have a mac, running OS X 10.3

She's got a printer hooked up to her comp via usb. We are both on the same router/network...both use the same line for the internet.

She went to her control panel, and shared the printer.

I went to my utilities, and tried to add her printer. I see her computer, use her password, but no printer shows up.

    What am I doing wrong?

if the printeer has a network card take it oout of the PC and plug it into the network directely giving it its own IP. Install its driver and check all the network options and enters its IP (print out a statusreport to get the IP). in this setup you can both print over the network.

in the setup that its connected to the PC, you have to still install the drivers for the printer and possibly use the IP address of your wifes comp as the destination.

ill do some research after i get a shower
    cheers

i'm pretty sure there's no network card. i don't see anyplace on it to plug in an ethernet cable.

the config we have SHOULD work. i just can't see the printer once i connect to her comp via print setup.

Windows Firewall needs to allow it I think. I use ZoneAlarm so I'm not too familiar with the Windows Firewall settings, but i vaguely recall there's a separate checkbox somewhere in there for sharing stuff.

restart. Sometimes that's all you need. Other than that, I don't know.

Do you have your network set up on the windows machine yet?

You need to be able to see the other computer in network neighborhood / My Network Places before it will work.

Both computers also have to have the same workgroup name.

Run the network wizard. Then share the printer.

yeah, i'm able to see her on my network, connect and share folders...

this printer thing just ins't showing up.

i wanted to get her a mac, but she insisted on a windows machine.

oh well, we'll figure this out eventually.
