    Default Extender base question

Printing with or without extender base...ok, the "instructor" for the class i am taking made it sound like it was not good to print inks (acrylic, water based...) straight and that it should be mixed with the extender....i would just like to find out if this is truely the case or if its cool to use straight ink....

Add water and print. You can't run (graphic WB)ink straight from the can, it's too thick.

Extender is just that, stretches the ink. More an economy measure than a rule.

    I use halftone paste/base as an extender/retarder.

there are many variables to this, but on the whole it is fine to print it sraight out of the can so to speak. Im saying because your in class, he wants the ink to last etc thus extender. Hope this helps

you are thinking of retarder. extender "stretches" the amount of ink used, and also provides transparency. retarder slows the ink from drying.
