    Default "How To" Video?

Does anyone have a basic "How To Screenprint" video or DVD that they wouldn't mind loaning out? I'd be willing to cover postage both ways...

    Thanks!

I've seen a couple videos. They were expensive and helped very little. So I just tried shit out on my own and learned alot quicker. Trial and error is the best way. Videos had a bunch of know it all a-holes talking about how great they are.

    Just my opinion.

Ask Andymac, he should have a video if anyone does, probably alot better ones than I saw as well.

(edit) the videos i saw were owned by my old boss.(speaking of know it all a-holes)

Video...sorry no. Tried a few times but never got it to the point where it could be edited and made into a sensible complete thing. Screenprinting is a little too complicated for a one hour vid.

Do have a book, with lots of pictures. Click Print Info on the website.... You can also get an earlier verson of the book for free there too, no pictures, but a lot of the basic info is covered in about 8 chapters, I use this when I teach workshops and set up training sessions.

I think if you search this category on gigposters, a lot of basic stuff has been covered. If you really want to learn, find a shop (textile or graphic) in your area and go to work there. You will learn more in 4 months in a trade shop than 4 years at college or screwing around on your own.

I totally agree. I bought one of those kits from Dick Blick. like $130 for a bunch of crap. The video I got in the kit was pretty worthless. Just sold the stuff I didn't use out of it, including the video, for $10. Don't go that route, buy your stuff from Victoryfactory.com, inks and emulsion from someplace local, and your hardware from Home Depot or something. I have a pretty ghetto system, but it produces some pretty good quality.

Oh, and look through the Screen-printing threads in the forum. I learned a lot there.

    seems simple enough to me.

    stretch screen
    coat screen
    expose screen
    print it.

    I mean what the fuck?

    its not brain surgery.

use decent supplies, watch your off-contact, keep your squeegee sharp.

    keys are

    1. cleanliness. the cleaner the stuff is the better the prints
2.consistency. measure stuff. buy the same supplies all the time. get a humidity gauge and some measuring tools like garadiated buckets and stuff.
    3. racjk out your paper the night before

    4. spend a lot of money on the exposure device. 90% of the problems are poorly coated screens and poorly exposed screens. HIGH UV and a single light source are they key. DEGREASE your screens. Get a real scoop coater and PRACTICE. keep the edge smooth. multiple light coats are better than thick gloppy one.
    5. keep your supplies cool and constant temp -wise.

printing is 99% preparation and 1 percent actual printing.
