    Default Printing on Vinyl

I have a friend who is going to print on vinyl...records.

The band will be releasing a 1-sided 12", and the B side is smooth (that's what he's printing on.)

Have any of you done this? Are there any secrets/tips? Do you need to do something special to get the ink to stick to it?

    I'd appreciate any info. Thanks.

ask wes. you can probably try using the sticker ink he uses for vinyl stickers.

or i mean your friend could try that...

Nazdar 9700. Very expensive but good stuff. There are vinyl specific inks out there, but I believe they are pretty strong. If you leave it sitting in your screen too long, it could toast your screen. 9700 isn't as bad and it is a multi-purpose ink, so it should work just fine. I've done vinyl stickers with it, never had any problems.

yeah, i'm familiar with nazdar, and how it works for vinyl stickers.

so, think that'll stay on a record?

I have a nazdar source book at home. When I get home tonight I'll take a look at it and let you know what type of ink they recommend for hard vinyl application. I'm thinking that 9700 will work though. I print posters with it, and anytime we get it on something good luck getting it off without retarder. I can experiment since I have some laying around and I'll let you know.

*EDIT* DO NOT USE 9700. It will not bond to the record. Nazdar has vinyl specific ink, messy, extra sticky, but it will bond. Just get a gallon of retreader for clean up. You probably already know this, so ignore my assbaggery. Good luck! it should be an adventure.

The S2 series system from Nazdar seems like it would work.

Here is a list of vinyl specific inks that nazdar has:
