J W, my husband, used to primarily do etchings/intaglio. I've done lots, but they weren't really my thing. Why do you ask?

I enjoy itching sometimes. Does that count?

Other than that, linoleum carving is the closest thing.

A lot of ladies I went to school with were into the idea of printing on fabric. I saw a lot of people try a lot of different things, with varying results. The trick of it is that all fabrics are different, and depending on the weave, the absorbency, and the texture, (also: polyester resists ink) you'll have to do different things. Sometimes you'll have to get the fabric really, really wet just for it to take ink, and then you're battling bleeding and possibly smearing your print. Other times, you'll just have to load that shit up with some really stiff ink, crank down the pressure, and hope for the best. I've seen people experiment for an entire year and never pull a decent print. It's got to be possible-- I've inadvertantly printed on enough felts to know that they can at least hold a line...
I would talk to Jay and Diane. Me dumb, they smart.
My other suggestion would be to make your own paper. You can make some real thick, tough shit out of old jeans and stuff. That'll print way better than a piece of fabric, and you could at the very least use it as an applique on your fabric pieces.

Before I crippled my hand, intaglio was my jam. Now I can't even hold a twist for more than a couple minutes at a time, so fuck it. Besides, etching is for nerds. You'll never see so many pairs of lavender, high-waisted jeans and polar fleece vests in your life as you will in an etching studio.
