wow, that's awfully sad.
There is no good way to find out your friend has died, but via text message at 2am during Flatstock was mighty shitty.
There's a lot I could say, but I won't.
Jason was, is, a brother. Now he is at peace, and I'll take comfort in that.
Dan, my thoughts are with you and the rest of my friends that knew his dearly.
We were tangentially acquaintances over the last 10 years and yet it was always a pleasure to run into each other. Dan set me up with a poster for MEC on my birthday in SF a few years ago and when Jason learned it was my bday and that I was sitting in the merch booth selling posters he made the night all about me -- he played EVERY song I requested and insisted that everyone there that night knew it was my birthday.
For a short while, the Mags are streaming Jason's entire recorded output on their bandcamp site, free.
There are some real rarities in there (i.e., Protection Spells, etc). Tons of stuff. It's cool that they are doing this.
Magnolia Electric Co.
One thing I'd like to add.
Jason LOVED the posters that so many of you made for him over the years, and said so many times. He had some experience with screenprinting himself and fully appreciated the time and effort that went into your work. I know he thanked many of you personally, and that he would have liked to in the cases where you didn't happen to meet face to face.
awww man, just killing me. i also thought of you right away dan when i heard this terribly sad news. and what a pisspoor way to find out. so sorry to you and so sorry for his family and other friends that i am sure are really missing his light in the world.
