Good on y'all. If I hadn't just been out of town for two weeks I would be down there for this. The thought of a real festival with good bands happening in Lexington, blows my mind. High fives to whoever (WRFL?) pulled this thing together. Hope it continues and thrives.

Exactly! I have a friend who's been working on promotions for the festival and we're both stunned that something on this scale with these performers is happening in Lexington. A country music festival I could believe, though even that would be a little surprising. But Faust? When Shipping News canceled, I couldn't believe their replacement was Mission of Burma. It's surreal. Somebody at WRFL has some ambition.
There seem to be a lot of reasons why something like this hasn't happened here before. Part of it has certainly been a lack of vision, but it's also been a lack of venues. Somehow, venues can't stay in business for more than a few years. Moreover, there haven't been any midsized venues: it's been Rupp Arena, Memorial Coliseum, and bars. I've heard that the newly reopened Buster's Billiards & Backroom has a capacity of something like 1,000 people, which makes them perfect to anchor a festival like this. I really hope it's a success, not just so there will be another Boomslang next year, but to inspire more people to ambitiously envision new events and venues for the city.
