after looking things over........ pretty tight on the music scene. you're hitting right after "street scene" SD's largest annual music festival. none of the local venues want to do too much to compete after that expendable income . the gasslamp will still have it's usual line of trendy clubs. never really followed them so.... just wander up and down 6th and 5th. my club has back-to-back nights of israel vibrations but, even if you are a reggae fanatic, the public transport shuts down long before the show does.

    recommend:

first night: pints and whiskey at the princess of whales on india st. average/good pub fare. stumble the 7 ( ? ) blocks home.

second night: take the trolley all the way to the border. bring your passport ( new rules. can't get back in without it or a cavity search ). follow the herd, be polite to beggars and nationals and pick a place to eat/drink that looks fun and clean.....enough. or just grab a handful of dog-dogs from a cart. leave before 9pm.

third night: UK subs at brick-by-brick ( $10-15 cab ride ). old school SD punk venue ( .....under many different names and owners ) but........ if you were thinking of seeing the circle jerks this is the best substitute for the time.

I have been to SD once before, and this was last year around the same time, just this time around i wanted to spend my time in the city so i booked my hotel in the Gaslamp, just did not know about all the trendy clubs, not really my thing. I wish you never would of even told me UK Subs were playing. that just pisses me off, lol. I will be leaving the morning they play...fuck! i missed them about 6 years ago when they rolled through Cincinnati with the Vibrators. Something came up and i could not get to the show...story of my life. Well thank you for all the options on what to do. The club you are talking about with the israel vibrations sounds really cool! Let me know more about that club...and yes reggae fanatic! Last time in SD i missed a TOOTS show...i always miss good shows when i go out of town. thanks again SCROJO. More on the back to back israel vibrations club please!
