A Leggett woman was shot and killed during a landlord-tenant dispute at her home, Mendocino County sheriff's deputies said Tuesday.

Doreen "Spike" Fisher, 48, was shot in the head at about 7:30 p.m. Monday during a confrontation with David Edward Duree, 60, of Leggett, and her landlord, Steven Christiansen, Sheriff's Lt. Rusty Noe said.

Fisher, who rented the small home, and Duree, who accompanied the landlord, both drew handguns and Duree fired the fatal shot, Noe said. It had not been determined who drew their weapon first, he said.

Duree was booked on suspicion of murder at the Mendocino County Jail. Bail was set at $500,000.

The dispute erupted because Fisher's nephew was living with her, apparently an arrangement the landlord did not approve of, Noe said.

The nephew's name was not available Tuesday, but records show Fisher shared a post office box with Kenneth Ferguson, with whom she also had resided in Idaho and Oregon.

The investigation is continuing. An autopsy is pending.
