Wow! if I had to, I would put boris's act in the top of a list of the best shows i've seen. I am unable to measure it to another show by them since this was the first time i'd seen them but jeez the intensity!
I don't want to slight any of D&N's fans but they were well, quite the yawner for an opener. I was embarrassed for Mr. Damon as he told the audience in a schoolteacher tone that they would play as soon as " you all would be quiet now- shhhh". didnt go over too well with a crowd pumped to see the headliner.
The set started with a good chunk of rainbow, in track order, and the blistering solo in "raflessia" just shook me from the spine. The rest of the show consisted of more songs from Rainbow and Pink, some truncated, some elongated into drawn out jams. Michio's e-bow and slide playing is unmatched and must be witnessed. At the end of thier set, at 1 am precisely the power was cut, with folks in the crowd shouting "you blew the backline" but I think one is the cutoff time here in PDX. However, electricity was restored and they went into a beautiful version of "Farewell" from pink anf another tune.
The one true bummer was that Burlesque/Horkey's masterpice poster for the tour was sold out by the time they reached us, which really sucks because it is one of the most beautiful gigposters I've ever seen. Go see this tour if you can Boris Heavy Rocks!
