Maximum RNR, live at the Royal Albert Arms, Winnipeg, MB, Canada
April 3, 2003
Maximum RNR were so violent, so loud, so great! They played an excellently violent and chaotic set of hard charging, fist pumping, "tough rock n' roll". They showed even more promise and potential than their last gig here, which was their first ever Canadian tour. As excellent as this performance was, I have a feeling that they're just warming up........
The band started off with their song "Switchblade" off of their first 7" that they released late last year, whilst ripping through an excellent set of tuneage. A few songs in, the guitarist Keith Maurik, crashed with singer Louis and fell head over heels behind an amp. Keith's guitar also screwed up a couple of songs in, and he recovered in about a half a minute, which was sweet. He's a Gibson SG man.......from one SG to another.
The other guitarist, Keith Carman, played some behind the back guitar solos, solos with his teeth, and rocked hard (of note: he's the resident punk rock/ punk n' roll writer/reviewer for Chart Magazine). We talked about a whole bunch of bands, and about the Hellacopters' brilliant new record, "By the Grace of God". He's a really nice guy. Singer Louis, who looks like Charles Manson's long lost son, might as well have been. He sung and acted like a madman, posessed by the spirit of rock n' roll.
All in all, there was broken mic stands, broken beer bottles, high energy, and excellent ass kicking Turbonegro/ Supersuckers style rawk. Amount of souls saved by rock n' roll that night? At least one. Highly recommended.
