    Default Punk Rock

O.k. I have been in the punk scene since like 82 or 83. A long ass time. I've seen Minor Threat and the Misfits break up. I've been around for a while and have been to at least 100 + gigs. I figure 20 years of seeing punk gigs gives me at least a little cred.

I had given up on punk rock as a tool for social change and inspiration. I figured Sum41 and Averal Levigne had pounded the final nails in punks coffin. That is until I took my 13 and 11 year old sons to see Anti-Flag and The Bouncing Souls. It was amazing. Bands with real ideas and a real message. I had no idea bands that had something to say were not only still around but could sell out 2 straight nights at a 1000 plus venue. To see kids having fun, dancing and singing the words to songs that have a REAL message was inspiring. No fights just kids having fun together. It was amazing. I felt like I was 15 again. I was so happy and proud that my sons have a real punk scene to inherit. I was sure it was over.

It seriously brought me to tears. I cried like baby.

I was never really into Bouncing Souls until saturday night. They blew me away. I've been into Anti Flag for a few years but i wasn't prepared for that display of punk rock energy.

You should have seen the encore. Both bands came out and played both bands songs. 8 guys on stage having fun and playing music. It was pretty damn cool.

P.S. If I had kids I'd forbid them to listen to Sum 41

It's just nice to know punk rock is alive. Metal doesn't really need the same things as punk rock. Punk as a genre really needs to a relavent message to be meaningful. Metal and Hardcore can survive on the sound and energy alone. Punk needs a message. Good to see it still has that.
