Who's go tthe best local band(s)?

So let's hear it. Bonus if they have releases or websites where they can actually be heard. Turn me on to some shit outside of Austin that may take a while to get here.

I'd like to say Spoon is the best in Austin but they've really eclipsed "local" status to me. So have Trail Of Dead.

We do have a band called Grand Champeen that kicks some serious ass. Like the Replacements or Soul Asylum back in the laste 80's. Anyone who saw either of those bands back then know what I'm talking about. We also have Those Peabodys who mix up AC/DC and JSBX real nice. Masonic is a band I do all their art for. Kinda crossed between Luna and New Order with a girl singing like Georgia from Yo La Tengo. Full of hooks. Also managing a band called Moonlight Towers that is just straight forward Rock tied back to Roy Orbison but like some of the stuff Wilco is doing that isn't Alt Country. And there's Li'l Cap'n Travis who are a bunch of ex indie guitar noise players doing twisted country songs about drinking all the time. Nothin' better than LCT and some high life down at the Continental Club.

Houston rock and roll is pretty weak.
But RAP and R&B music in Houston is like HOT underground all over the country.
The rock boys in town could learn alot from the rap/r&b folks here. Dude, they WORK it...sell THOUSANDS of units outta the trunk...major promo...cross-over events...all that...

I'll second jermaine.. No good Houston bands.. They ALL Suck.. Except for the brothas from the third ward doing rap and hip hop shit.. Thgose dudes are BIG underground.. I think they sell more fuckin records than Elvis and the Beatles put together out of their cras like Jermaine says.. Whole fucking network of gangsta rap and shit.. Hell Bushwick Bills girlfriend shot his ass in the EYE.. the fucking EYE and he's still alive to tell about it..The last great rock band in Houston was Dresden'45 followed by the Party Owls, then maybe Really Red.. But all gone now..
