Bubbling in Dried Emultion

I am using Dick Blick 8xx screens with Ulano TZ emulsion. Washed with dish soap before coating. Coated with one coat on both sides using a scoop coater. The graphic washes out correctly and the lighter areas are blocked, but I do not think they will stand up to repeated use. Any idea what is causing this?

I don't know exactly what would have caused it, and taking a guess would not really be helpful, but what I do know is that I used that same emulsion once. Once.

i'd say there was still soap on the screen when you coated it. or the screen was still a bit wet when you coated it, thinning out the emulsion a bit.

Not the worst screen coat job I've seen but pretty close.
Was you're screen dry before you coated it?
Did you take off the protective strip off the scoop?
Looks like you put too much emulsion on.
Try pressing harder with the scoop edge running at 90º to the screen.

I think you had crap all over your screen. Was it completley rinsed and then completley dry? did you let the emulsion sit?

.....really though, I have never seen a screen like that.

did it look like that when you coated?


you guys know if you coat and it looks like shit/has thick and thin spots, blobs etc, you just scrape coat it, it will smooth everything out.

The screen was dry to the touch after washing the soap off. I let them dry overnight horizontally with the squeege side up. What is scrape coating?

I coated both sides of the screen, once each.

did you add anything else to your emulsion, like water?
