Default Radio Shack Foot Switch

This might be old news for some but my neighborhood Radio Shack just got these $10 foot switches added to their inventory.

Don't have to do the ol' vacuum on/off "reach around."

we have these on all our hand presses, they rule. If you can't find them at radio shack, (we couldn't here) go to a big box store and ask for christmas tree foot switches, they sometimes push them as that.

You know, for the older folk who can't bend down to unplug it.

I think they aren't 3 prong because the switch isn't rated to run high current stuff. I'm sure you could make one for much cheaper that was three pronged from a high current switch and a plastic box.

Has anyone rigged up a momentary switch so that the vacuum turns on when the screen presses down on the button?

i have one built into my andymac designed printing table/jig. i've yet to use it, since i print pretty sporadically, and i've not bothered with it on the two larger print jobs i've done since i built the thing.

i'll post a picture when i get home...

this is not an electrical shutoff, but we used this system to turn the vac off on the small CD press.

essentially, put a couple of big holes at the back, and have the clamps come down and cover the holes to create the vacuum. when the screen goes up, the holes suck in the air, creating no vacuum going to the CD holder.

Those foot swtches are a good idea though, simple and help speed up the printing.
