Once you learn all the quirks of the 3000, it's fairly reliable. I only use Epson brand ink - I get poorer results with the aftermarket inks on my 7600, but I have no choice as it was set up for the pigment inks.

Also getting the 3000 fixed isn't that big a pain in the ass.

Yeah, but those black cartridges will last you over a year. I had the 2200, cost about $180 a month in ink, the 3000 costs me $180 a year and it runs all day long.

Uhh, and make 100% sure you purge the lines before you install that aftermarket ink. If the epson and aftermarket ink mix, they can solidify in the lines and destroy the print head.

Yeah for sure. I did read that and have the instructions book marked for purging the lines

hey fools, have you done the purging necessary for aftermarket inks? Did you use the cleaning cartridges? Most of the guides i have read say i should use cleaning cartridges in the cleaning process, and these things cost more than the aftermarket inks themselves.

My real advice would be just to buy the epson cartridges, that way you have no problem. The cost is high, but I bet they will last you at least 2 years. I go through 2 black cartridges a year, and probably print over 1000 films a year with them.

But, no I have never switched, mostly because the 3000 is the cheapest printer I have ever run as far as ink cost vs volume of printing. If you are going to switch, I would do everything I could to get all the epson ink out of the printer before switching. If that means cleaning cartridges and cotton swabs, then do it. Otherwise you are going to be spending hundreds on a new head, or a new printer.

Good advice, thanks. I may just stick with the epson brand ink.
