I'm not sure. I'm not terribly familiar with capillary film or its density and hardness. Would you liken it to wood? If so, I think it may work. One thing to keep in mind is the amount of pressure that the press applies.

The book is kind of site and press specific to what we had at the school, but it's still a good general overview of the letterpress process. I'd be happy to do a one-off for you though, Jay, so if you're interested still, PM me.

The letterpress guy down the street from me (the old Jackson Press, very large lettepress company started in 1890 something, 10+ linotypes, 10+ heidelburgs etc . . . ) uses rubber stamps from time to time, mostly because his Linotype machine is busted. He has to play around with the pressure of the press so it doesn't mash the stamp in. He's doing this on a 1970's Heidelburg, so you might not have an adjustment on a smaller press (I know little to nothing about the machines, so I am guessing)

I think CAP film would work, but would wear down and might react with the ink?

I pretty much print with any material I can build up to type high. If the ink will stick to it, I'll print with it. I follow no rules. On another note, I may have purchased a C&P today. Now, where to put it?

I'm picturing a YouTube video series starring Dirk. "Will it PRINT?"
There's so much suspense in that question.
