Waterbased ink over Discharge ink?

I don't care much for plastisol inks (though I haven't tried the soft hand additive yet) and I want to offer a client an alternative to plastisol... printing white on dark blue shirts. I had wondered if it would work well to print with discharge white ink, discharge it on the platen, and then print over it in a water-based white? I have printed quite a few shirts with discharge white, but it's not really a bright, bright white, but a slightly off-white. It's a subtle thing but I'm not sure the client would want the discharge white alone since they're used to plastisol white which is very bright.

Anyone ever tried what I'm talking about?

you can do plastisol on top of discharge.

If you do that do you have to discharge the ink before you print the plastisol? I guess you would. They probably would not be compatible. What with the water based-ness and the solvent based-ness.

you don't. just make sure the dryer is hot and the belt slow.

Heck. We're still getting by with a heat gun. This is our first big order. It might be 500 shirts. I guess I'll try to buy a flash dryer.

Yeah, the cracking is part of why I don't like plastisol. But mostly I dislike the feel of it. Discharge is just so nice. Nothing at all ON the shirt.

tell the client the earth will thank them because no plastisol means no pvc sitting in a landfill until the end of time. also, sericol makes a nice opaque white discharge ink.

Good point, are you using discharge white or just the base?
