Ellipse Vs Round Halftone?

Greetings all. My first post

Question: why is it better to use elliptical halftones than round ones? Searched a lot but couldn't find answer.

it's mostly for higher res/smaller dot issues but the theory is that a dot could possibly be lost in the mesh whereas an ellipse would bisect two holes in the mesh.

so elliptical dots won't print any better? I'm mainly thinking about finer dots being lost...

I know a lot of people that swear by the elliptical. I've used em but like the round better.

smoother transition through the midtones, when the dot changes to a hole. the elipipse doesn't stick as easy, less blurr, less banding.
