Try this for fun: Put a photo of your girlfriend, dog, etc. on your light table and a fresh piece of amberlith on top. It may be better to adjust the levels of the pic in Photoshop first in order to better define the shadow areas. make the darks darker & the lights lighter. F*ck the midtones. Cut what you see.

It takes f*cking forever, but it'll come out super bad ass & make a killer art print.

**Oh yeah, remember HAIR IS A BITCH.

that's how i did the obama postcards back in 04, how i did the shellac portraits on the 'skonni' print in 2000, and how shep fairey used to do his stuff.

It's pretty cool to see how your drawing style comes out when you use a knife instead of other media.

Lighting rubylith on fire is fun. Not the acetate, just the red stuff you pull off. It goes up in an instant, leaving a puff of bright red smoke and a toxic smell. Try it it's fun!

Lighting Fender guitar picks on fire is good fun too.

Thank you everybody! I started cutting a little while ago and I'm in love. Though I hope I can find a decent scalpel, and the swivel knife takes a little getting used to. So soothing!

Beautiful stuff guys-- I'd love to see some more ruby-cut prints posted here if anybody's got any!

This was my first effort thus far, once I get more comfortable with working this way and using the knife, I'll get more ambitious. I have some good plans for it. But it's awfully relaxing to sit and cut away at the ruby-- kind of like meditation. Weird!

I cut seps for 20 years.

rubylith= used for clean straight cuts as in stripping into page layouts.

amberlith=used for curved and detailed non linear shapes to cut color seps.
