Wallpaper Process

We don't print wallpaper usually but got a chance to do so with Fia Backström for her show a the Whitney Biannual.
Here's how we set up it for a stationary screen. Usually wallpaper is printed on long table and the screen is moved along the paper. We couldn't really do that, but this worked pretty well.


We set up a few tables and inverted some of our drying fans.



The paper was fed off of a roll. We had already printed the blue background.


We used two reg tabs along the bottom to keep everything running straight.


We marked the paper at two points that lined up with our reg.


Printed a spot, skipped a spot, printed a spot.

did you skip spots to stop ink hitting the underside of the screen/getting smudged? or is there some other good reason?

Yes we skipped spots so the wet ink would offset on to the back of the screen and then back on to the paper where we didn't want it.

Museum wallpapering is getting to be a trend. I have seen it over and over this year, either in an artist installation or the promotion for a show.
Next trend: flocked wallpaper.
