There's a lot of things that go on every night that violate lease terms, rent ordinances, and federal laws in a ton of apartments in SF.

heya....
i print in my kitchen, use a clothesline to hang prints, wash the ink out in the tub (doesn't stain or screw stuff up as long as you scrape and save(!!) most of your ink with a spatula of some sort), then i take them to the do it yourself car wash, when the screens all need a good reclaiming (not just one or two), and pay four bucks to get the job done safely. it's pretty easy. all my inks are under or alongside my table, and the racking can be a pain on a clothesline without help, but usually someone's around and hanging out anyway. i like the folding tables people build, but like my handmade vaccum table pretty well. what you're trying to build is totally doable. good luck!

naw, you just build a tabletop more like a box so you can have a place to attach a hose to. once you drill all the holes in the top, your shot vac or even (if it's strong) mini shot vac can handle the job. when i get a camera in my life i'll post pics for you, vondada. in the meantime, search the forums, there are many a good systems on this site. an old table works really well to start from.
ps girl in sanfran...don't rent the extra space unless you're making this your full time gig. it's not easy to get to to the point where venues pay you ourtright for your service, fyi. i'm in la and the corner of my kitchen is great. you;ll make it work...
hey spirals...
once you make it into the city if you'd like to look me up/shoot a msg I'd be happy to go over all the trials, errors, mistakes, and triumphs I just experienced as I'm doing a homebrew print studio right now in my apt in alamo sq.
