Default Building an exposure unit

How hard is it? is it do-able?

The Heads are looking into going totally self sufficient, but totally low budget. is it worth our time and effort to build our own exposure unit? basically we are looking to for something to expose screens @ 19 x 25 or so.

dusty:

its cheap and easy.

mine is really big, 40x60, cus the only shop lights i could find were really long. i used 2x8"s to make the box, with a 1" sheet of ply on the bottom. cut a small a 2x2" square out of one of the corners for cords to come through.

here is what ya need to do:

build a box to dimensions required (you wanna give some room, about 6"s on each side)

3 2-bulb shop light fixtures with bulbs, line them up in the middle of the box.

nail braces on each top corner of the box to rest glass on, about 1/4" from top of box.

get 1/4" glass cut to size of box with safety seams, etc.

plug lamps into a power strip, you will use this to turn on your box.

attach hinges both sides of 2 1x1 blocks of wood and back and front of box. your going to need a pillow or something with black fabric to put inside of the screen frame. you will use this to hold the frame in place.

i can draw you up plans and send you a photo if you like sometime this weekend. email me and let me know.

altogether, it cost me $140 to build it, glass being the most expensive, but look around, i got my sheet cut and sealed for $50.

-----

this is based on the box that skycrusher built which is based on the box that AA uses.
