Try a fine'r mesh, 230 maybe even 305. The reason you have a mess is your dots are filling in. Try a thicker consistency, this will help you hold your dots. Unfortunately, it will also help you dry in....welcome to halftones!

You can try a thick ink with retarder, this will help your ink flow through the mesh a little better and not dry in on a higher mesh count. Print fast and do a flood coat.

Sounds like too much pressure and not enough off-contact.... prolly a combo of the 2.
You can use cardboard strips taped to the table to provide a little height so the screen doesn't rest right on the table. Are yer squeegees sharp? If you're using a real thin water-based ink, try not flooding the screen before you make a pull. Just make sure you have enough ink in the screen.

i use only water based inks (latex paint with ulano retarder to be exact) and i NEVER have probs printingh halftones
we usually use 200 mesh and the biggest we ever use is 160- that's for solid backgrounds. we offten use a 230 or 250 for timy details but they are a bitch to reclaim. |
