Default producing HAlftones using water-based inks! what mesh #?

I'm tryin to practice my halftone production technique on screenin.

And I would appreciate it if anyone of you fine experts in this field would care to share and elaborate.

I just know that using water based inks, you will have to almost use a mesh# of 110-135 approx. But the problem is the mess that is produce on the under side of the screen any tips.

thanks

shawn

Try a fine'r mesh, 230 maybe even 305. The reason you have a mess is your dots are filling in. Try a thicker consistency, this will help you hold your dots. Unfortunately, it will also help you dry in....welcome to halftones!

what do you do to combat both those problems?

I mean what is easier to address?

You can try a thick ink with retarder, this will help your ink flow through the mesh a little better and not dry in on a higher mesh count. Print fast and do a flood coat.

Try using Createx (airbrush cleaner). Wipe your screen down with it and print away! Also use a higher mesh.
Just a little that the Factor27 boys told me at Flatstock and it works!!!!

Sounds like too much pressure and not enough off-contact.... prolly a combo of the 2.

You can use cardboard strips taped to the table to provide a little height so the screen doesn't rest right on the table.

Are yer squeegees sharp?

If you're using a real thin water-based ink, try not flooding the screen before you make a pull. Just make sure you have enough ink in the screen.

Default Halftones

How big are your dots??

A lower line screen (bigger dot) may
alleviate problems without changing
screen mesh...along with all the other
good tips mentioned...

good luck

i use only water based inks (latex paint with ulano retarder to be exact) and i NEVER have probs printingh halftones
we usually use 200 mesh
and the biggest we ever use is 160- that's for solid backgrounds.
we offten use a 230 or 250 for timy details but they are a bitch to reclaim.
