You guys leave WB ink on screens for 4 days?!?!
Pre-wet is a must, emulsion is thirsty. We always have damp rags lying around for cleaning hands, so we just give the screen a good wipe front and back before starting. Do a test print or two to clear out the water from the stencil.
I thin my ink with grout sealer
Don't print, then the screen never clogs.
cut the ink with tons of water. ALWAYS flood the screen between pulls. You can use retarder, but that only helps me on really hot days.
Brg!
Barricades of hamburgers divide the nation.
I've tried the 409 thing, and I can't say that I understand what it's supposed to be doing. The only thing it definitely does is ruin the first print. What I've been doing for a long time now is for the first print I flood the hell out of it and pull it, rather hard I might add, about 3 or 4 times. Done. After that they all go fine. What is it that the 409 solution is supposed to be doing? Maybe I'm doing it wrong and missing out on something awesom?
Like, hols?
3 or 4 times...I find WB ink starts to stick to the paper and not peel then it dries in if I hit it more than once...but that's just me.
the thinking behind lubing the screen is to keep it flowing, no clogging. INk on a dry screen can freeze as the moisture gets taken out, especially the first pull with a dry screen. so after the first print, especially a second or third colour where you need to look and see everything is printing, you have check register, you still need to adjust ink...it's easier to do this if you are not fighting the image drying in. We print off on newsprint till it's good, don't waste good ones.
I don't use 409, SO-34 20% in water. Also to open a clog in a run, also to spray on after the last pull, to keep the ink soft while you remove the squeegee and clean up your ink puddles...the ink come right off with this sprayed on, squeegees, emulsion, ink knife, etc
But hey, whatever works. maybe those things don't happen in NYC
