Finding the right Large Format Printer

So I'm looking into getting the Epson Artisan 1430 Inkjet Printer to print 13x19 transparencies. I was wondering if anyone knows if this one will work for transparency production? If not does anyone know of a somewhat cheap (under $300) wide format printer. I don't really want to splice them together anymore. But the Epson site says that none of their printers will support transparencies. So anything helps.

I dont know about that specific printer but I use a epson 1400 which also prints out 13x19 and it works fine. And I can't speak for the larger printers but on this one I know I, and most others, don't use a transparency setting to get the best results. I have found you kind of have to play with you print settings to get the best results on your part. Do a search there has been a ton of discussion on this type of stuff in the past. good luck

Thanks! The 1400 was another one I was looking at as well. I might just go ahead and go with that one since I know now that it works. Do you have to use the transparencies with the strip at the bottom or will it take any kind?

No strip on the trans. I use the kimoto transparencies and have had no issues other than some driver issues when upgrading Mac os a while back but all the new drivers work great.

I bought a refurbished Epson 1100 from Amazon for $99 and am blown away by how great this thing puts out 13x19 films. I use Atlas waterproof inkjet films. Since I made the switch a few months ago, my laser films have collected dust. I believe this is the same unit that Ryonet sells with their RIP kit but I have no problems with opacity just using the stock Epson cartridges.

The transparencies with strips are for laser printers that have sensors that detect the position of the trans in the paper path. Inkjets are straight paths and don't need the strip.

Speaking of large format epsons, I have a bunch (maybe 7 total) of old (still sealed, never opened) color cartidges and a couple of black cartridges for epson stylus models 900/1270/1280. I no longer have the printer so if anyone is interested in these cartridges drop me a message. They are yours for the cost of shipping.

Same here. I use an Epson 1270 with waterproof film. Superior to the trans sheets from the office stores.
